The last four puppies waiting to go home to their families had their first official salon groom today. Whilst we do much of the process at home, it’s very difficult to mimic a salon environment with strange smells, dogs, and people. We are stupidly blessed to have @nesslenard and @furfinerygrooming who sees our vision in creating gotties who break the “difficult to groom stereotype” and help expose our pups to professional grooming as early as possible. Plus, look how cute they look!

Through absolutely zero fault of her own, our little Raisin has become available again to join a loving family.

Raisin is a bubbly, friendly pup who loves people and going on adventures. She’s a placid girl with just the right touch of spunk - just so easy to have around but brings a lot of joy. She’s already enjoying social outings meeting people and friendly older dogs, is leash and crate trained, and has passed a comprehensive health check. She’d thrive in a variety of homes, sporty or not, with or without kids or another dog - anyone would be lucky to have her!

As the puppies fast approach six weeks, we decided to have dinner down at our local oval tonight. Socialisation is so integral that majority of vets and dog trainers agree that taking your puppies on low-risk adventures (such as a rural oval!) is way more important than isolating them due to the fear of illness prior to full vaccination. Whilst we are exceptionally careful, we have always seen the value in these experiences from a young age. Sometimes the puppies can be a little hesitant on the first outing, but not these Rugrats! Check them out hooning around with Thatcher 😁

Fun in the sandpit today with some appropriately placed digging exercise ☺️🪏 Managing a toddler and puppies at the same time can be challenging (sometimes it’s a race to who can hurt who first) but the puppies adore Thatcher and vice versa. They’ll sleep well tonight!

We had our first outside “adventure” this morning - a little bit younger than normal but it was a warm and quiet day that was too perfect to miss out on. Lots of playing and slow sniffing of grass and plants, bugs, grass and all the interesting treasures they could find. It lasted all of 15 minutes but it’ll have them knocked out for the next few hours at least! 🍃

I (Jess) have had a big work day but know everyone is eagerly awaiting photo updates on the nuggets. I asked Nay (chef wife with a current obsession with indoor plants) to take some photos and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this wasn’t it 😂 but they do look very cute - and look who’s big and orange and has eyeballs!

We’re beginning our grooming exposure early with an electric toothbrush aka “baby clippers”. It also doubles as the best itchy spot finder in the world, it seems!

- Goat milk kefir
- Frozen blueberries
- Free-range egg
- Calcium powder from @_naturalanimalsolutions to give her a little boost whilst she’s lactating

Keeping Fina happy and healthy whilst she rears her puppies begins with a continuous supply of good nutrition. We mix it up a fair bit to ensure she’s hitting all her requirements but this morning’s second breakfast consisted of:

- Big Dog Active blend
- Beef organ mince
- Pink salmon
- Greek yogurt
- Livamol for a general boost

Todays scent exposure was to a tennis ball cut open so they could really smell the rubber. As you can see, some puppies were intrigued (or wanted to use the jar as a pillow) whilst others didn’t want a bar of it. Tomorrow is cloves! ☺️

The puppies have started their brain games early in the form of Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI). These are both valuable techniques used to help puppies grow into confident, well-adjusted adults.

ENS involves exposing puppies to mild, controlled stressors during the first few weeks of life (between days 3 and 16). This helps strengthen their nervous system, making them more resilient, adaptable, and less likely to get anxious in new situations. It’s like giving their brains and bodies a gentle workout, which encourages healthy development.

ESI, on the other hand, focuses on introducing puppies to different smells during this same critical time. Since puppies’ sense of smell is developing rapidly, gently exposing them to a variety of scents helps stimulate their senses, builds curiosity, and improves their ability to process and react to the world around them.

When used together, ENS and ESI is a good first step in helping puppies become more confident, adaptable, and comfortable in different environments, hopefully making them better equipped to handle new experiences, people, and situations as they grow up. It’s all about giving them the best start in life!

Fina and Milo welcomed their litter this morning with a rapid fire birth of eight puppies - four girls and four boys. All over in a couple of hours! All the puppies are great birth weights and Fina is doing excellently, though understandably pretty knackered. I’ll be emailing everyone who has been waiting on news today after we’ve recuperated a bit 😊

The little kids went for a grand adventure to Melbourne on Sunday to all get their first big kid groom. Early exposure to professional grooming is an essential part of socialising your non-shedding puppy. They were very well behaved for nearly nine weeks old!
